January 1 - Annual Flathead Lake Polar Bear Plunge, Bigfork - The Polar Bear Plunge is every January 1st, 2:00pm at the Raven Brew Pub in Woods Bay on Flathead Lake. The Raven is open for those wishing to eat and drink. T-shirts are available to Plungers at $8.00 each. It is a family event to welcome the New Year with a chilling dip. Spectators are welcome. January 2 - 4 - Flathead Sled Dog Days, Whitefish - Flathead Sled Dog Days is a 3-day event. Friday, January 2, is vet check for competing teams, mushers' meeting and an assortment of fun and games for the community to become involved. Saturday is the 9:00am race start for the first heat of 50 miles for the 12-dog teams and 25 miles for the 6-dog teams. Sunday is a repeat of Saturday. Both days are open to spectators. January 8 - February 12 - The Lewis and Clark Film Series, Great Falls - All film series focus on treatment of Lewis and Clark in film. January 9 - 11 - The Montana PRCA Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals, Great Falls - Events are held at the State Fairgrounds in Great Falls. Over 96 of Montana's best PRCA pro rodeo contestants travel to Great Falls to pit their wit and ability against the skill and heart of Montana's finest PRCA rodeo stock. January 10 - The annual St. Nick's Nordic Festival, Big Sky - The festival will be held at the Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky. Turn west off Highway 191, onto Highway 64. April 26 - Annual Helena Railroad Fair, Helena - The Helena Railroad Fair is the largest railroad hobby event in Montana and the Northern Rockies. Railroad lobbyists from throughout the country will gather at the Helena Civic Center for the Annual Helena Railroad Fair. The ballroom, balcony gallery and stage areas of the Civic Center will be filled with tables laden with railroad items. Many vendors will offer railroad memorabilia, collectibles, books and photos. May 16 - Watershed Festival, Bozeman - The Montana Outdoor Science School will be hosting the 11th Annual Watershed Festival at the Bozeman Fish Technology Center. May 22 - December 5 - Living History Program Nevada City Open Air Museum, Virginia City - Relive the excitement of the Gold Rush era in Montana. Outdoor Living History Museum in Nevada City, Montana, houses one of the largest collections of Old West Artifacts outside the Smithsonian. May 23 - 24 - Whitewater Festival, Bigfork - The Bigfork Whitewater Festival involves international kayak racing on the 'Wild Mile' of the Swan River that runs through Bigfork. At the height of spring runoff, the 'Wild Mile' is considered a Class V whitewater. The event draws over 200 competitors along with several thousand spectators. July 2 - 4 - Roundup Rodeo, Livingston - The Livingston Roundup Rodeo has been a popular annual PRCA event in the heart of Montana cattle country since 1924. July 2 - 4 - Champions Rodeo and Parade, Red Lodge - The Home of Champions Rodeo is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit and brings nearly all the national champions to Red Lodge every year. July 3 - 4 - Milk River Days and Cowboys Rodeo, Hinsdale - The celebration begins with a rodeo and free street dance in downtown Hinsdale on July 3rd. On the Fourth there is a parade at 11:00 am followed by kids' games, horseshoe, ping pong drop, beef barbecue and free fireworks at dusk. July 3 - 4 - Harlowton Chamber of Commerce Rodeo, Harlowton - Harlowton presents its Annual Bonus Bucks Rodeo in the beautifully rebuilt Howard Holloway Arena. This NRA-sanctioned rodeo includes a full range of events including barrel racing, bull riding, calf roping and bucking horses. Wild steer riding and wild cow milking add fun and laughter to the program. Kids, youth and ladies events round out the rodeo. Concessions feature hamburgers, hot dogs, beer and pop. July 3 - 5 - Roundup Independence Days Extravaganza, Roundup - Roundup Independence Days Extravaganza (RIDE) starts Friday, July 3, with a traditional parade down Main Street at 11am. Festival activities will begin at noon at the Musselshell County Fairgrounds. Activities will include the popular inflatables by Air Jams in Kids Kountry, live music and other entertainment. There will be an evening concert capped by a tremendous fireworks display by the Skylighters. Saturday, a full day of events starting with bird watching at the heritage trail and another parade. July 3 - 5 - Whitefish Arts Festival, Whitefish - The annual Whitefish Arts Festival maintains a long tradition of high quality arts and fine crafts. Whitefish is a picturesque town in the Flathead Valley of Montana featuring beautiful lakes and majestic mountains. This event will be held at the Parkside Credit Union Park on the corner of Spokane Avenue and Railway Street. August 3- 5 - Daniels County Fair, Scobey - Daniels County has the best family fair in northeastern Montana. August 5 - 8 - Park County Fair, Livingston - Livingston hosts this county fair which features a carnival, rodeo, various exhibits, pig wrestling, demolition derby and more. The fairground has 20 water and electrical hookups for RVs and campers. The outdoor arena is excellent for any rodeo function and horseman of all types can stall their horses year round as we offer 28 inside stalls and 18 outside stalls. August 5 - 8 - Richland County Fair and Rodeo, Sidney - The Richland County Fair and Rodeo is an annual event known as the show window of agricultural achievement in eastern Montana and western North Dakota. August 6 - 8 - Powder River County Fair, Broadus - The annual Powder River County Fair features 4-H and open class exhibits in this great old-fashioned Montana celebration of crops, livestock, home grown foods and baked goods and crafts. Also included is the Broncs and Bulls Rodeo. The rodeo is the wildest event of the fair. Saddle broncs and bucking bulls make this rough stock rodeo an event you don't want to miss. August 6 - 9 - Mineral County Fair & Rodeo, Superior - Mineral County (Superior) provides an old-fashioned country fair with lots of cowboy spirit and homespun charm. There is no charge to enter the fairgrounds. Argricultural exhibits abound with locals displaying their talents, green thumbs, and individuality. Our photography and quilt shows alone are worth the trip. Evening rodeos for westerners, plus shows and livestock competition for the 'kid' in us all. August 6 - 9 - Prairie County Fair, Terry - The Prairie County Fair is fun filled days and nights. Come check out the 4-H judging, livestock, rodeo, Parched Prairie Players (the local drama group), and entertainment. Annually scheduled a weekend in August. A petting zoo, games for kids, delicious concessions and commercial exhibits are on the grounds daily. August 7 - 15 - Montana Fair, Billings - MontanaFair is an agricultural celebration in the historic tradition of fairs. It is the region's largest event. Held at MetraPark in Billings, MontanaFair celebrates for nine days. Nearly 10,000 people will earn cash and ribbons for their entries which range from beer, wine, bunnies, crocheting, horticulture, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, petit-point, pickles, to hobbies, and arts and crafts. Fair hours are 12 noon to 11 pm daily. The Thomas Carnival operates the midway featuring 35 to 40 rides plus games. A shady park for kid's rides accommodates families and the free Kid's World exhibit nearby offers free games and activities for small children. A petting zoo is located in Kid's World as well. Food choices are abundant at the fair featuring the traditional corn dog, BBQ, corn on the cob, 'Vikings On a Stick', fresh lemonade, and beer gardens. August 7 - 9 - Days of '85 Fair, Rodeo, and Parade, Ekalaka - This is an Annual Event, Days of '85, celebrating our beginning, which was a huge success for the Centennial held in 1985. There is an emphasis for the 4-H at the fair, including individual exhibits for garden produce, crafts, canning, etc. The Carter County Quilt Show is held at the same time as the Days of '85 and features heritage and modern quilts at the Ekalaka Grade School Gym. On Sunday the parade is held at 11:00am each year on Main Street. The Artists of the Prairie have an annual art show during the fair which displays a traveling art show as well as local talent. August 27 - 30 - Lincoln County Fair, Eureka - The Lincoln County Fair is held in the Tobacco Valley with Eureka as its center in the northern part of the county, just seven miles from the Canadian border. 'Small town, home town, country, low key' are the descriptions used for the fair. Locals and returning transplants from other areas come to the fair to get together and visit and catch up on each other's lives, while at the same time enjoying the traditional and ongoing fair activities and events that have occurred for many years. Then watch Showdown's employees create a firey snake down Big 7 while the Great Falls Ski Patrol puts on a fireworks display.
